World Dumpling Fest

1. World Dumpling Fest

Why this is fun:  Celebrate the glory of the dumpling in its many forms—pot stickers, empanadas, pierogi and more—at World Dumpling Fest. This year, the one-day event doubles as the finale to the World Music Festival, featuring performances from Fidel Nadal, Alsarah and The Nubatones and the LowDown Brass Band. Admission to the event is free, but you’ll need to purchase tickets if you want to eat dumplings—$12 for three servings or $20 for six.

West Town Art Walk

2. West Town Art Walk

  • When:  September 27-28, 2019 – Fri 5pm – 8pm, Sat 12pm – 8pm.
  • Where:  Headquarters located at Ciao Chicago, 1656 W Chicago Ave, Chicago, IL 60622.

Why this is fun:  Artists take over neighborhood shops during the annual West Town Art Walk, which showcases the creative talents of area residents and businesses. The festival celebrates all kinds of art, including visual, fashion, musical and culinary. Stroll along Chicago Avenue between Milwaukee and Western and take a self-guided walking tour (maps are available at Ciao Chicago, 1656 W Chicago Ave) or head to the First Midwest Bank parking lot, where you’ll find live art-making and activities for kids.

3. BeerHoptacular

  • When:  September 28, 2019 – 3pm to 8pm.
  • Where:  Vertiport, 1339 S Wood St, Chicago, IL 60608.

Why this is fun:  A celebration of American craft beer!  This is Chicago beer culture and good (mostly) clean fun. For 2019 BeerHoptacular is back with more beer, more attitude and more… other stuff. The ninth annual BeerHoptacular will take place on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at the awe-inspiring Vertiport Chicago. For the ninth time, Chicago craft beer fans will come together to celebrate their love of American beer culture and sample over 100 craft beers.

Located on the west side of downtown Chicago, Vertiport Chicago is a 30,000 sq ft hangar with a state-of-the-art amenity serve the distinct needs of those who travel by helicopter or for those who want a distinct view of the city.  BeerHoptacular will be held in their massive helicopter hanger. Very cool….be sure to check it out!

Oktoberfest on the Beach

4. Oktoberfest on the Beach

  • When:  September 27, 2019 – 6 pm to 9 pm.
  • Where:  Shore Club at North Avenue Beach, 1603 N Lakeshore Dr, Chicago, IL 60610.

Why this is fun:   Beach season may be over in Chicago, but Shore Club is still open at North Avenue Beach and the lakefront venue is hosting an Oktoberfest celebration on the sand. During the three-hour event, guests will have access to beer tastings, giveaways and great views of Lake Michigan. This will probably be one of the last evenings you spend by the beach (before next summer), so you might as well make it a memorable one.

Edgewater Art Fest

5. Edgewater Art Fest

  • When:  Sat. September 28, 11-7 pm, Sun. September 29, 11-6 pm.
  • Where:  Granville between Broadway & Sheridan, Chicago, IL 60660.

Why this is fun:  When it comes to the fine arts, Chicago long has proven to be one of the more accepting and affluent cities in the United States, and within Chicago, the Edgewater neighborhood is among the most artistic local communities in the city. Located on the far north side of Chicago, Edgewater is a fantastic residential neighborhood with plenty of burgeoning businesses, including restaurants, pubs, and shops, but with a number of locals involved heavily in art, theater, and music, the area serves as an important hub for displaying the work of local artists.
