1. Chicago Air and Water Show

  • When:   August 17 and 18, 2019 at starting at 10:00 am.
  • Where:  North Avenue Beach, 1600 N Lake Shore Dr, Chicago IL 60610 .

Why this is fun:  Don’t be surprised if you get a neck ache from looking up during this two-day event. Join throngs of people at North Beach and surrounding areas to catch air and watercraft demonstrations, including the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, the Royal Air Force Red Arrows and the U.S. Army Parachute Team Golden Knights.

The U.S. Navy Blue Angels have been astounding audiences since 1946 with their commanding presence and aerial maneuvers in their F/A–18 Hornets. As role models for men and women of all ages this elite group of Navy pilots defy gravity with their famous diamond formation and precision flying. the team has thrilled more than 427 million fans choreographed aerobatic and high-altitude performance maneuvers. 2. 1060 Block Party

  • When:  August 17 and 18, 2019, daily from 1:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
  • Where:  Gallagher Way, 3637 N Clark St,  Chicago IL 60613.

Why this is fun:  Gallagher Way teams up with nearby Chicago institution Metro to present a free two-day block party in the shadow of Wrigley Field, welcoming 12 bands and a stack lineup of local food vendors. On Saturday, bluesy rockers Black Pistol Fire headline a bill that includes Local H, Touched By Ghoul, Montrose Man, The Bleacher Bum Band and DJ Chuck Wren. Sunday’s entertainment includes Afrobeat collection Antibalas and indie-rock stalwarts Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, joined by Foxing, Now, Now, Quarter Mile Thunder and DJ Rob Sevier. Plus, Big Star, Maddon’s Post, Mordecai and more area eateries will be on-site to keep you well fed throughout an evening on the streets of Wrigleyville.

3. Festa Italiana 

  • When:  August 15 – 18, 2019 – Thursday: 5:00 pm – 10:00 pm, Friday: 5:00 pm-10:00 pm, Saturday: NOON-10:00 pm, Sunday: NOON-9:00 pm.
  • Where:  Taylor Street, from Ashland to Racine avenues, Chicago IL 60612.

Why this is fun:  A five-block, restaurant-heavy stretch of Taylor Street becomes a playground for your taste buds at the 12th annual Festa Italiana. Expect a mix of crooners, jazz and party bands on three stages, local restaurants selling Italian fare and other festival eats, vendor tables, Italian themed art and more. Music highlights: Cole DeGenova and Chicago Diamond Trio, Too White Crew (Friday); Alfonso Ponticelli, John Michael Coppola, Wedding Banned (Saturday); Francesco Marino, Soco 7, 7th Heaven (Sunday).

4. Edison Park Fest

  • When:  August 16-18, 2019 – Friday 5:00 pm – 10:00 pm; Saturday-Sunday 11:00 am – 10:00 pm.
  • Where:  Near Monument Park, 6730 N Olmsted Ave, Chicago IL 60631.

Why this is fun:   What started as a neighborhood sidewalk sale today attracts 20,000 festival-goers, organizers say. See for yourself at the annual Edison Park Fest, expanded this year with a new area for food vendors on the east side of the Metra station. Expect live music, a family stage, bags tournament (Sunday), bingo games, a beer garden, carnival games, business expo and—yes, a sidewalk sale featuring handmade goods (noon-6 p.m. Saturday-Sunday only).

5. Thai Food Festival Chicago

  • When:  August 17-18, 2019 –Saturday 12:00 am – 10:00 pm, & Sunday 11:00 am to 8:00 pm.
  • Where:  Thorek’s Parking Lot, 851 W Irving Park Rd, Chicago IL 60613.

Why this is fun:  The Thai-American Restaurant Association of Illinois (TARA) will be hosting the 2nd annual Thai food festival of Chicago for August 2019.

Join in and experience Thai culture at Thai food festival 2019. We’re glad to be returning this year with 14 food vendors from Thai restaurants around Chicago. As well as many activities for you to participate and performances for you to deeply explore Thai culture.  Our advice? Try something beyond your usual order of Pad Thai and Crab Rangoon.
